Last Adam and Genesis

There is an additional illustration to go along with this week's 'Last Adam and Genesis' illustration: 1 Corinthians 15: 45. Click here to see an animation of previous illustrations that this build upto the 'Last Adam and Genesis' illustration.

This illustration explains the reason Jesus Christ is called the last Adam: it is because of the events in Genesis concerning the first Adam. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, became a man because the first head of the entire human race, Adam (the first Adam) rebelled against his Creator. God sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to step into history to become a man to take the place of the first Adam (in a sense, God 'made' another Adam) to be the new head.

In dying on a cross, becoming sin for us, and being raised from the dead, Christ enables any of the descendants of Adam-who put their trust in Him-to receive the free gift of salvation and therefore spend eternity with their Creator. It's important to note that if the first man (the first Adam) is only an allegory, then by all logic so is the last Adam, who is Jesus Christ. In other words, a correct understanding of why Jesus Christ is called the last Adam is dependent upon believing the literal history in Genesis 1-11 concerning the first Adam. As the first Adam was a real man in history, so the last Adam is a real man (the 'God-man'). This again emphasizes the fact that the whole Gospel message is dependent upon the literal events of Genesis 1-11
