Drawing lesson III
For the next several weeks we will share a number of step by step drawing
lesson/presentations for teaching children some important concepts about
Biblical creation.
This week’s lesson deals with the food that God originally created for all the animals and people to eat before sin and death entered creation. That food, of course, as stated in Genesis 1:29-30, was plants. A world without death means a world without steak!
Use the basic shapes in this template as a guide to help you draw this picture.
This presentation is meant to be interactive with the audience, so I have placed examples of comments and questions into the animated example that the presenter can use to keep the audience thinking as he or she draws.
An accompanying animation demonstrates the drawing progression for this lesson.
Step one:Start drawing the T. rex. You will draw his eyes, nose, head, neck, chest and arms, but don’t draw the mouth. That is saved for later. ‘Do you know what this is yet?’ ‘A dinosaur?’ ‘Yes. A Tyrannosaurus rex!’

Step two:When you finish drawing the T. rex (except for the mouth), say to the audience: ‘And he’s not alone.’ Begin drawing the second dinosaur. Again leave out the mouth. ‘What kind of dinosaur is this?’ ‘It’s an Apatosaurus.’

Step three:Return to the T. rex, and draw in the mouth and teeth. Also make him licking his chops. Now ask: ‘What do you think the T. rex is thinking?’ ‘Do you think he’s HUNGRY?’ ‘What’s he going to eat?’ Hopefully the audience will be thinking the T. rex has an Apatosaurus on the menu. If that’s what they’re thinking, that’s good.

Step four:
Now draw a smile on the Apatosaurus. This should confuse the audience. The second dinosaur shouldn’t be smiling because he’s going to be eaten by the T. rex! Or is he? ‘Why is the Apatosaurus smiling?’

Step five:Now you solve the mystery with a Biblical pre-sin scene. The T. rex is thinking about those delicious plants that God created as food for all animals and people in the perfect world. Draw a thought balloon coming from the T. rex and fill it with yummy fruits and or vegetables. ‘Let’s seewhat the T. rex is thinking. ‘He’s thinking of food, but it isn’t meat!’ ‘That’s why the Apatosaurus is smiling.’

Step six:Connect the thought balloon to the Apatosaurus as well. Both of these dinosaurs are plant eaters! It’s important to think of dinosaurs (as well as all the other animals) from the perspective that they were created perfect and Adam’s sin changed them. Even the most terrible of the terrible lizards was ‘very good’ in the beginning. ‘The Apatosaurus is thinking of the same thing.’‘What does the Bible tell us God first made for ALL the animals
and people to eat?’ 'And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.' Genesis 1:29-30 ‘Plants!’ |
