A public challenge by one of Answers in Genesis’s staff scientists to Lawrence S. Lerner’s anti-creationist propaganda …
Lawrence S. Lerner is Professor Emeritus in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at California State University (NB: the term “Emeritus” has nothing to do with merit, but simply means retired and allowed to keep the title “Professor” as an honour). Recently he released a report, published by the Thomas B. Fordham Foundation, entitled “Good Science, Bad Science: Teaching Evolution in the States”, which included an open attack on biblical (“young earth”) creationists. The study rates states (by grades A to F-) on their teaching of evolution, with grade A signifying a clear presentation of evolution as a “central organizing principle” of all the sciences. An “F-” was received by Kansas, which (according to Lerner’s misguided report) has eliminated any reference to the “E-word” from its educational jargon.

It is interesting to note that Chester E. Finn, Jr., and Marci Kanstoroom, in their Foreword to Lerner’s study, emphasize the need for “standard setting”. The bold fact of the matter is that the very topic they are defending and espousing, evolution, itself presents no basis for standard-setting. Evolution is a purposeless, chaos-driven process that leads to ends that we can only see with hindsight and assign means to them. That is in stark contrast to the belief that the God of the Bible created all things with purpose, reason and logic.
Jonathan Sarfati, Ph.D., has written a devastating rebuttal to Lerner’s report, and we are making it available to parents, teachers, educators at all levels, and the public in general. We hope that you will use it to confront misleading anti-creationist propaganda head-on. AiG executive director Ken Ham calls Lerner’s study “nothing but an anti-creationist diatribe and evolutionists running scared.”

Dr. Sarfati also has written an excellent book, Refuting Evolution, available through Answers in Genesis, an eye-opening exposé rebutting the evolutionary propaganda foisted by the US National Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Sarfati begins his rebuttal of Lerner by exposing the “bait and switch” tactics of evolutionists. With many references to supporting sources and materials, he then examines the contributions creationists have made to science, to clear up the distortions that those of Lerner’s ilk try to foist on an unsuspecting public, for example that creationists deny speciation, have made no contributions to science, and cannot do “real” science.
We at Answers in Genesis are issuing a call to action! No matter what “grade” you received from Lawrence Lerner, you will also receive a grade from God one day. If you allow false teaching to invade the schools; if you do not confront those who distort the truth and denigrate the Word of God, perhaps you too will receive an “F-” from your Creator on the Day of Judgment. We urge you to present Dr. Sarfati’s article, here made available to you, or even a copy of his book, which can be purchased through AiG’s website or directly from us, to your school board. We urge you to write letters to the editors of your local newspapers. If you really want your children to be “learners”, don’t let Lerner have the upper hand!
